7. Why did people migrate west?
Changes in perspective have been caused by discovery, migration, and displacement.
In the years between 1800 and 1850, around 8 million people migrated west from the Eastern USA. The journey was long, expensive, and often very dangerous. Around 1 in 10 did not survive to reach their destination.
So why did they do it?
