Holocaust mini essay assessment

Criterion D - Critical Thinking assessment

Now you have researched the factors that created the conditions that allowed the Holocaust to happen you are going to practice the key ATL skill of Critical Thinking.

You will be writing a short mini essay using the PEAL paragraph style on the subject of which factor is most significant in creating the conditions that allowed the holocaust to happen.  You will be using sources and your own knowledge to develop an argument. This is a crucial skill to develop as you move through the school.

As you write your paragraph you will write the Point, then Evidence then Analyse, the Evidence, the Analyse, the Evidence, then Analyse and finally evaluate or Link back to the question. Think of an ambulance making an ee aa ee aa ee aa noise! It is very important that you use the source and your own knowledge to complete this.

You will have 20 minutes to plan your essay and 40 minutes to write it.

Structuring a paragraph.
POINT: Make a clear statement - what was a significant factor in enabling the conditions that led to the Holocaust?

EVIDENCE: Use a quote from the source to support the point.
ANALYSIS 1: Analyse how that quote supports the point you have made.

EVIDENCE 2: Use a second quote from the sources to support the point.
ANALYSIS 2: Try and explain how the evidence may be valuable or limited.

EVIDENCE 3: Use a third quote from the sources to support the point.
ANALYSIS 3: Try and explain how the evidence may be valuable or limited.

LINK: How does your analysis help to prove your point and answer the question?
