Europe and the First World War 1871-1918

A. SYLLABUS CHECKLIST

B. CONTENT REVISION

Note: This section is under construction and does not cover all of the bullet points above.
These revision guides are designed to be used as a revision aid - combine your notes with them for comprehensive coverage.
i) SYLLABUS POINTS 1 - 2: Changes in German Foreign Policy 1870-1914
There is no revision guide for a question that focuses only on the change in German foreign policy. The resources below will help you to revise this topic.
a) Bismarck
POWERPOINT TO HELP WITH ANALYSIS                                                                                   TEXTBOOK CHAPTER

b) Kaiser Wilhelm and Weltpolitik

iii) SYLLABUS POINT 4: Impact of WW1 on the civilian Populations of TWO Countries
See below for a revision guide on the impact on the civilian population of GERMANY. The second country you should use in a comparison is RUSSIA - see revision materials on the Revolution to 'double up' here.

c. ACTIVE REVISION

Follow these suggested steps to 'actively' revise:

1. Open each planning frame and analyse the question by completing side one as far as you are able.

2. Complete any reading / review necessary to help you answer the question, not forgetting any relevant historiography.

3. Plan (and write at least a few to a 45 min time limit) your answer using page 2 reverse of the frames.

4. Check your plan against the 'suggested answers' document - there is a suggested plan for each question (taken from an IB resource). Review and reflect - remember: there are many ways to 'skin a cat' in a history essay; the plans are there to encourage reflection - they do not represent the only possible response to the question.

5. Now plan answers to as many of the questions in part D as you can - the mark scheme document will help you to see if you are are heading in the right direction.

D. PAST PAPERS & MARKSCHEMES

You should work through as many of the questions below as possible as part of your revision - detailed plans with a clear line of argument. The second document contains the content sections of the mark scheme for each question to give you an idea of whether you are heading in the right direction
