Imperial Russia and the Emergence of the Soviet State

1. Why was there a revolution in October 1917? Why was it the Bolsheviks who came to power? Were they 'pushing at an open door'?

The October Revolution is one of the great events of the twentieth century and has attracted a lot of historiography. We will be exploring it over the next two lessons using a variety of contemporary sources. This is not a simple business, so we will need to focus and ensure we complete anything left unfinished at home.
